Tips
for maintaining your car
Many of us make a point of ensuring
that we take good care of our cars. Irrespective of the age, value,
make and model of the vehicle, owners often gain a great deal of
pride from how they look as well as how they perform.
Purchasing a car is likely to rank only
behind buying a house in terms of the biggest outlays that a person
will make during their lifetime, so it’s not surprisingly really
that they also invest so much additional time, effort and money into
keeping their motor in pristine condition. There are many obvious
benefits to doing so, including the fact that it should be worth more
when the time comes to replace it and it’ll hopefully sell quicker.
It’s not all
about financial gain, though. Parting with hard-earned money makes
you more aware of the need to be a responsible vehicle owner and that
starts for many people by securing cheap
car insurance. That’ll free up valuable funds to spend on
some of the other products needed to properly maintain your pride and
joy. Products like a durable cover to safeguard your car from the
elements, whatever the weather, as well as protect against dirt, dust
and scratches. They come in all shapes and sizes so there should be
one to fit every make and model.
Keeping a car looking good is pretty
straightforward just as long as you can organise some kind of routine
and invest wisely in the right equipment, like brushes, chamois
leathers, clothes, shampoo and wax. Wash the alloys, bodywork and
windscreen on a regular basis, either armed only with a trusty bucket
and sponge and a bit of elbow grease or with a pressure washer (keep
your distance if you opt for the latter…). Don’t forget to wipe
the windscreen wipers clean too.
Once you’ve cleaned your car and
allowed it to dry, it’s time for a wax. The protective layer
created by waxing not only helps to look after the paintwork, but it
also gives your car a natural, eye-catching shine. If you’re in any
doubt over which products to use on your vehicle, don’t hesitate to
consult an expert to point you in the right direction. It’s
recommended that you wax your car out of direct sunlight for best
results, making sure you spread the wax evenly before buffing with a
soft cloth. With the outside finished, dust, hoover and polish the
inside thoroughly and possibly think about getting car covers.
Now that it looks the part, remember
there are also a series of practical checks you can make on the
vehicle. Check the tread on your tyres and keep them adequately
inflated, as this has an impact on fuel consumption as well as the
overall safety of the car. Pop the bonnet whenever possible and pay
close attention all fluid levels. Avoiding harsh accelerating and
braking out on the road and sticking to speed limits will also reduce
wear and tear.
